Boot Release Problem

Ford Fusion Boot Release Problem

The boot latch won't open via button or key fob. I can press the button and see the latch move slightly but not enough to open the lock. The boot will still open via the key as normal.
It looks like a new solenoid is needed which if it's the right part can be bough for around £20 on eBay.

First remove the boot trim and check for part numbers.

Removed the three screws but the plastic is till firmly in place.
Haynes manual says there are some plastic clips once you remove the 3 screws.
.
Remove the 3 screws from the tailgate trim and then lever around the edge to release the spring clips and then the trim cover can be taken off so that you can see the release mechanism. The lock is operated by either of two Bowden cables - one from the keyhole and one from the release motor. Try using the remote button on the key to see if the release motor is making an effort to pull the Bowden cable. Mine was just not moving the Bowden cable enough to spring the lock and so I have ordered a new release motor.

I could see that the release motor was not moving the Bowden cable enough to spring the lock, I ordered a new release motor from FordParts UK (www.fordpartsuk.com). I have just fitted the new motor - very easy just two bolts and the wiring connector, and it works perfectly.

Go to the website www.fordpartsuk.com and then go down the list of vehicles and click on Fusion and then where it says enter Keyword - type in tailgate release motor. I paid £49.35 plus £4.00 p&p plus £10.67 VAT making a total of £64.02. Not particularly cheap but good to have it working properly again.
