Transmission won't engage any gear There are few reasons that could cause such problems: 1) Gear selector cable has failed Brake lock solenoid has failed not allowing the gear selector to move out of "Park". 2) Excessively low transmission fluid . Control Panel Removal & Installation E30 Models Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Remove the left side lower instrument panel trim and the center console tray. Remove the radio. Remove the switches or covers from the openings above the radio opening. Disconnect the switches from the wiring harness. Remove the screws holding the control panel at the top. The screws are accessible at the openings above the radio opening. Pull the control panel forward. Disconnect the cable clamps and remove the cable ends from the levers. To install: Connect the cables. Install the panel into the dashboard and replace the screws. Install the switches and the radio. Install the center console tray and the trim panel.
