Automatic Transmission won't engage any gear
Transmission won't engage any gear
There are few reasons that could cause such problems:
1) Gear selector cable has failed
Brake lock solenoid has failed not allowing the gear selector to move out of "Park".
2) Excessively low transmission fluid .
(note: if car is operated for an extended amount of time with low fluid level the transmission will fail prematurely).
Shorted electrical component not allowing the PCM to control the transmission.
Example: shorted fuse
Flex plate (flywheel) is broken completely not transferring engine power to the transmission.
OR ITS A VALVE BODY ISSUE
Ok the issue that you are describing is a valve body failure which is very common on this vehicle. The valve body is electrically shorting which in turn does not activate the solenoids to engage the gears. Most times the valve body can be replaced and the transmission is fine, however most shops are going to want to rebuild the trans because there has been a pressure loss. The pressure loss creates heat damage to the clutches, bands, etc. The safest way to prevent you sending money in the future from having to go back in the transmission for additional repairs is to go with the rebuild.$2000 is a fair price for the job.
The valve body can replaced by removing the transmission pan.It has about 10 bolts.
the valve body runs about $400 and the gasket runs about $25.00.
This Same Problem is very much noticed on Nissan liberty:
Liberty common problems are as below
SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER this is as a result of a faulty speed sensor on the top right side of the gear box.it only take a number 10 spanner toremove and re-fit another sensor so dont be fooled by the greedy mechanics.
NOT SHIFTING GEARS -use of ordinary CVT AFT will only damage the gearbox buy the correct oil at FUCHS at Highfield junction coming from town along simon mazorodze you turn right at ZBC and check your right side 100m before the round about at highfield junction next to swiss motors. This problem can also be as a result of a damaged step motor that costs about $300 in most cases the step motor is damaged as a result of a malfunctioning speed sensor.
HIGH FUEL CONSUMPTION - Air filter needs to be changed air flow sensor and spark plugs will be faults and need replacement.A wrong air flow reading results in high fuel intake..
