Rusty Brake Rotor

Image
Bee's nest hiding under the dashboard Rusty Brake Rotor  See The Difference between new and old brake rotors: Below are pictures of two brake rotors for a 2000 ford crown Victoria. One is an original equipment ford rotor that has been installed on the car for about 10 years ago. The other is a New Old Stock (NOS) rotor that was produced about 10 years ago and has been stored in a humidity controlled environment since manufacture. See the picture below and that will say why your brake rotors needs to be inspected and replaced if its worn out and rusty: These two rotors were made using the same castings. But do you notice how the rotor on the right looks very different near the cooling vanes due to all the thick rust scale? In the northeastern united states, massive quantities of chloride salts are applied to the roads during the winter to clear snow and ice. This makes driving on roads around here similar to a salt water marine enviroment. Before the rotor was ...

Heater Box Buzzing

Image
Crown vic make a buzzing sound on the highway when cruising at around 65MPH Solution for this problem: This problem is noticed by many others too ...................  The whole dashboard vibrated sort of like the vehicle had a bee's nest hiding under the dash. Problem was not present when driving at slower speeds unless it was a windy day. Intensity and frequency of the noise varied depending on blower motor speed with the problem being eliminated if the climate controls were set to "off". Also, the noise was not present when the climate controls were set on "max ac", even if the blower was at high speed. Since both "max ac" and "off" close the door in the heater box that draws in outside air, my suspicious was that something was loose in path that the outside air comes in through. Had recently replaced the blower motor, so I knew the inside of the heater box was free of debris in the area that draws outside cabin air. Noticed ...

Wiper Cowl Vibrations

Image
Crown Victoria Wiper Cowl Vibrations The problem: This 2000 crownvic has a buzzing sound on the highway coming from the windshield wiper cowl on the driver's side near the power brake booster and cruise control servo. See the location shown below: Difference shown between two models: For some reason, most of the 2000 model year crownvics have half of the weather stripping under the windshield wipers missing. Here's a 1998 hood insulator next to the one from this 2000 crownvic And here's a 1998 crownvic with a full sized hood bumper for comparison And the 1998 crownvic with the half length 2000 hood bumper installed Having half a hood insulator missing like this eliminates all downwards compression on the windshield wiper cowl from the hood. This allows part of the windshield wiper housing cowl to vibrate and make noise when you're on the highway with lots of air moving by this part Sometimes, you'll find 1992+ crownvics with the entire hood bumper asse...
